Luneberg and Luneberg Heide

We spent the day walking on the heath (Luneberg Heide) and in the city of Luneberg. In July and August, the heath is a carpet of purple. Today, it's just ground cover and trees, but we listened to the cuckoo birds calling each other and tasted the tiny Heidebeeren (sweet little heather berries).

Climbing the Luneberg water tower gave us a birds-eye view of the city. Luneberg is over 1000 years old and in the medieval old town, the building facades are ornately beautiful.
