From Annecy to Montreux to Interlaken

Morning was a bit harried. Our InterRail app didn't match the train schedule posted at the station. And of course there was no one to ask. We managed to get on the right train, but I was a little worried for a bit.

The train took us through Geneva (Calvin country) and along the north side of Lake Geneva. We got glimpses of the lake as we rode along. In Montreux, where we caught the Golden Pass Express to Interlaken, we had several hours to kill between trains so we walked the waterfront of this musical city, until we found Freddie Mercury. His statue, that is. And got crepes from a street vendor.

The Golden Pass Express ride was so beautiful. We are now definitely in the Alps in all its splendor. There are chalets and rugged peaks and forests and green pastures. And cows. Lots of cows.

We're now in Interlaken for the next three days. It appears to be an international youth hangout spot for extreme adventures. We, however, are using it as a place to sleep and heading into the mountains each day. Doug scheduled excursions for two days. Tomorrow is a guided trip to Jungfraujoch, via Grindelwald.

(Beautiful Lake Geneva from the train window .)

(Montreux waterfront on Lake Geneva. Doug tells me that Montreux is known for its music, hence the notes in the fence that lined the lake. It hosts an international jazz festival each year.)

(A stop to watch this woman make crepes -- and to buy one.)
