Trondheim

We took the train to Trondheim today, northwest of Oslo to the Trondheim Fjord. It's a beautiful sunshiny day. Its only 60, but it must seem warm to all the locals who are outside en masses in shorts and tank tops. When I said something about spring, several people corrected me -- its summer, they told me.

So what made me happy today? The sunshine and all the happy people embracing the warmth made me happy. As Californians, we kept our jackets handy. It wasn't THAT warm, and always cool in the shade.

My cod risotto tonight definitely made my taste buds happy.

The birds singing in the cemetery behind the cathedral really made my heart sing. I couldn't name these birds, but who needs to name them when you can just listen to their sweet music.

The Nidaros Cathedral was a surprising bit of joy, something I didn't expect to see in Norway. Seeing something so old, built between 1070 and 1300, is always moving. And the relief work on the outside rivals the cathedrals of France.
The street art mural of an old woman defiantly spray painting a wall made me laugh out loud. Old women's antics are the best. Speaking of which, I've seen a lot of older women, singly and in groups of 2 or 4, traveling together. Jill tells me that the fastest growing traveler group is solo women over 60. Women finally, according to her, "have more money and more freedom." And that knowledge really brings me joy.

Finally a few street and canal shots of Trondheim:
