Bergen 2

It was a beautiful sunny day with clear blue skies in Bergen today. A great day to ride the tram out of the city to visit Edvard Grieg's home and museum. A composer who died 1907, Grieg is a beloved Norwegian. After touring his home and composition shed together, I sat in the cafe and wrote while Doug went to the museum.
(Grieg's statue is built to his exact size. He was very short.)
(The window in the door was a gift to his wife. He evidently never gave her any flowers, so he gave her this permanent rose to compensate.)
(This is the beautiful and unique concert hall on the grounds of Grieg's home.)

Norwegian stave churches were constructed during the early years of Christianity and designed to reflect the Viking influence and culture. Hence, there are dragons on the roof and in the interior woodwork.
(The tiny window on the left side was made so that people with leprosy could listen to the service.)

(Along both sides of the Church was a space where they had to leave their weapons which were prohibited in the church, as they should be.)

I had a reindeer sausage sandwich today. It was tasty, but the best part was the lingonberry sauce in place of ketchup. Doug says that eating Rudolph guarantees me a permanent place on Santa's naughty list. It was worth it. The funniest part of our day was that there were no vegetarian hot dogs on the menu, so Doug went down the street to (don't judge!) McDonalds. This McDonald's had sweet potato fries, which he quite enjoyed. Plus, Rick Steves says it's in one of the oldest buildings in that part of Bergen. Doesn't a mention of this McDonalds in a Rick Steves book elevate it just a little?
