Arrival in Copenhagen
We had our first European cappuccino, and even though it was merely a Munich-airport cappuccino, it was still quite tasty.
When traveling, I often think of Steinbeck, who wrote a book about his 1960 trip around the U.S. with his dog Charlie. He begins by saying that every sound associated with travel, be it a ship horn or a jet engine or even the clopping of horses' hooves, stokes his itch to wander. I also love those sounds, but I'd add in the tastes, too. Cappuccino is one of the tastes. Because what is travel if not sitting quietly, sipping good coffee?
I look forward to all the tastes, sounds, and sights of Scandanavia. And as for sounds of travel (per Steinbeck), we'll be taking planes, trains, buses, metros, and ships, all with their own unique sounds and sights.
But for tonight, after 3 flights, a slightly bumpy 10-hour overnight flight, and a short train ride into Copenhagen, I'm mostly thinking of getting my feet up and sleeping.
Then tomorrow, we'll dive into the sights, tastes, and sounds of Copenhagen. And tonight, I'll dream of cappuccinos and Danish smørrebrød and Swedish cardamom buns and Norwegian Fiskeboller.
